Ideas for school garden signs

These are photos of signage from life lab. They are fun and great for interpretation.

Tallest eggplant ever

Lauren and I took photos next to this eggplant in my backyard. It is a volunteer and is as tall as our apple tree! I guess all that zoo-doo put a little elephant into this bad boy. The plant is just starting to produce fruit now.

Root boxes

I first saw these when I was at Life Lab which is the educational garden program at UC Santa Cruz. This is a wood planter with a hinged wall that allows kids to see the roots of a growing plant. Here are instructions for making one.

really cool.

Cold weather seeds

Last Saturday I planted my first seeds for the new season. I did broccoli, cabbage, chard, and leeks in paper pots.

I direct sowed some lettuce and chioga beets.

More to be planted hopefully very soon.
